“Anything worth doing is worth doing well.” “Give it your all.” “If you give 100% of your attention, energy, and time to a thing, you will get exactly that back.” It’s trite cliches like this that make us all cringe. But they wouldn’t exist if there wasn’t a kernel of truth to them.
We’ve already established that our purpose in life is people. And the only way we can fulfill that purpose and have a positive influence on others is to remember that we – our personality, our heart – are our true purpose in life. But how do we make sure that we are in a position to fulfill our true purpose? That we are in a position to help the people we love? We have to be true to ourselves.
Being true to ourselves begins with understanding who we really are and doing the things that help us become that person. It means setting goals for ourselves, aspiring to achieve and become things that have meaning for us. The trick is to, once we have our personal goals and aspirations in place, make sure we give a minimum, not a maximum, of 100% into achieving them.
We get out of life what we put into it. There is – and will always be – a direct correlation between our effort and our reward. If we are not willing to give 100%, why should we expect to receive the optimal outcome? For that matter, if we are not willing to give 100%, is what we are doing really that important to us? Is it something that we should be spending our time on? Is it something that truly is a part of our purpose, our heart and soul?
