Face the Day! Get Up, Get Ready, and Your Life!

Face The Day

You might not want to. Actually, you probably don’t want to. Instead, you probably want to just give in to that desire each morning to just stay curled up under the covers. Pretending that if you just stay asleep, when you wake up, everything will be back to the way it was. But it’s not. You need to get up. Get ready. And face the day. Your day… and whatever it may hold.

Every morning, at least Monday through Friday, you need to get up and get ready like you would when you were working. That doesn’t mean you need to get up at the crack of dawn, but you shouldn’t sleep in until 10:00 every morning, either.

Get up in the morning and get yourself ready to the face the day. Take a shower. Get dressed – not in your weekend clothes, but not in your professional clothes either. But make yourself look presentable. When you were in school, did you have a dress code or a uniform? Some of the psychology behind what you were required to wear had to do with dressing for what you needed to accomplish that day. Same with work. Dressing professionally lends itself to acting professionally.

What was your breakfast routine when you were working? Was it just coffee? Or did you make yourself a healthy, nutritious breakfast? Whatever it was, stick with it. If you had a full breakfast of pancakes, eggs, and bacon only on the weekends, stick with that routine. If you just had coffee, maybe consider having something a bit healthier – people do say breakfast is the most important meal of the day – but you don’t need to go overboard.

Getting up and getting ready to face the day each morning with a set routine will help you to stay positive and focused. It will help you keep your mind from spiraling to places it doesn’t need to go. And that fresh positivity and focus will help you tackle whatever it is you need to accomplish.
