Motivation. That extra kick that gets us in gear and propels us to do what needs to be done. Except when it doesn’t. When we can’t find that urge, that drive, to do what we need to do. It happens to all of us. Even the most driven of us. And when we find ourselves in a position of blah – of feeling lackluster or muted – finding the motivation to do even the simplest of things can be even more difficult.
Even the most driven of us can lose our motivation. We are so used to going 100 miles an hour with what we have defined as our purpose, that we lose sight of what is truly important in life. Our selves. The people in our lives. Instead, we feel at sea, lost and drifting, and even the simplest of tasks seem insurmountable.
As with many things in life, the first step in restoring your motivation is recognizing it is missing. Our minds are more than capable of playing all kinds of tricks on us. We might think we are just tired, or need a down day. But too many of these days in a row will put you those doldrums and zap your motivation. Recognize when you are beginning to slip and take action.
Action comes in many forms. Get back to your routine and to do list. They give you a sense of accomplishment. And that feeling can help restore your lack of motivation. Do the things you enjoy doing. But make sure as you are doing them that you aren’t sinking into them, shutting out the world around you, if they are solitary activities. Most of all, remember your true purpose in life. Remember the people who mean the most to you, your family and friends.
