It’s Okay To Just Say No

Say No

We all know that not everything in life is good for us. And when faced with these good vs. bad choices, the opportunity to say yes or no, the decision is easy. But sometime the answer isn’t always clear. Sometimes the opportunity presented may seem like a good choice when it really isn’t.

Various opportunities present themselves every day. The challenge is determining whether or not the opportunity is truly a good opportunity. As we’re looking for new professional opportunities, sometimes what appears to be the perfect opportunity is really just because you want it so badly.

Examine each opportunity based on its own merit. And examine it thoroughly, without letting your own emotions come into play. Often times, when we want something so badly, we’re unable to objectively evaluate its pros and cons. So we say yes, and it is the wrong decision.

If you feel like you are unable to objectively evaluate the pros and cons of an opportunity, ask someone you trust. Ask for an opinion from his or her viewpoint. Chances are, the viewpoint will be different so you will gain additional insight. Don’t discount your own opinions, but rather balance them with those of others. That way you will be able to get a true idea of whether an opportunity is good or bad.

If the opportunity is a bad opportunity, say no. Regardless of what you think or how desperate you may be for an opportunity to come along. You will save yourself the frustration of being in the wrong place or role and will also save the person offering the opportunity from ending up with a bad match. If you do not say no, you run the risk of both parties being unhappy and not able to move forward.
